Let’s be honest: there’s no better place in the world to be in the summer than New York City. Some may argue that a beach is more serene or the countryside more idyllic, but for us New Yorkers, we know that summer means one thing and one thing only: more space to roam.
From the temperatures heating up and luring us outside to fewer people being around because so many have gone away, the awesome events around town are just the icing on the cake to make us want to stay in NYC all summer long.
The green lawns of Bryant Park beckon in the summer.
There’s nothing that we love more in New York City than checking out the endlessly inspiring view from a boat on the East or Hudson Rivers. With the city glimmering at night and the weather warm enough to feel like a caress on the skin, hopping on the boat is the ultimate indulgence and one of our favorite ways to spend an evening in New York City.
One thing that NYC will never lack is an incredible array of choices for which cruise ship you should take for a tour around the island, but one of our perennial favorites is the Hornblower’s Happy Hour tour, which at $30 per person is a steal. With the next ship setting sail on July 19th and including complimentary wines, h'orderves, and temporary tattoos, the only thing you should be asking is how soon you can jump aboard.
The Rooftop Cinema is another fabulous way to spend an evening in New York City. With movies being shown on the rooftops of buildings in Manhattan and Brooklyn, drinking a cocktail or two while taking in a show has never been more fun. With a BYOB option included, catching a movie under the stars becomes not only an unforgettable experience but a relatively inexpensive one, as well.
Movies under a summer sky are the ultimate luxury.
Randalls Island Park is hosting the Panorama Festival again this July. Now in its second year and taking place the 28th, 29th, and 30th, it looks like it will be one of the unforgettable events of the summer in New York City. With weekend passes priced at $345 and one-day passes available for $145, it’s the perfect way to indulge in some music in one of the most beautiful places in New York City.
The Panorama Festival is expected to be another smashing success.
Of course, summer is never complete without some laughter and New York City always has an abundance of wonderful options to find some merriment. Drunk Shakespeare is a delightful way to spend an evening in New York City -- after five shots of whiskey, actors try to perform in a Shakespeare play, with entertaining results. Promising to leave you laughing, Drunk Shakespeare is running now.
With so many wonderful options to consider, it can be easy to overlook the ubiquitous parks of New York City. But with them in full bloom for the summer, it is the ultimate indulgence to discover -- or rediscover -- what makes them so magical. Walks in the evening or checking out the programs that they offer, from yoga to chess games, spending time in New York City parks are one of our favorite ways to relish summer in the city.
We hope you have a wonderful time indulging in all that New York City has to offer this time of year!
